The original design consisted of three independent penetration seals within close proximity to each other, whereas the new design focuses on the insulation integrity in the casing and around each nozzle in a staggered penetration seal design.

Górzow power plant consists of two SGT-800 industrial gas turbines, an SST-400 steam turbine, three 11kV generators and two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). In 2013, the traditional units on the plant made the conversion from coal to gas; cutting sulphur-dioxide emissions by 95% and creating a fuel efficiency of 84%.

Original: Standard Penetration Seal

The original design consisted of three independent penetration seals within close proximity to each other. This resulted in a high radiated temperature from each seal, prolonged heat build-up against the casing and a shorter life. The movements of the seals required to be kept independent, allowing the differential growths to occur during the transient HRSG operation.

Solution: DEKOMTE Large Bespoke Penetration Seal

The new design provides superior insulation for all three seals and maintains the separation of movement of materials for each nozzle. The combination of the nozzles into a staggered penetration seal, focuses on the insulation integrity in the casing and around each nozzle. Managing the temperatures allows a formed fabric solution that can deliver reliable long term operation, even under high cycling conditions. DEKOMTE also integrated the internal casing insulation and liner plate system, to reduce gas circulation in the seals.
